Una de las consecuencias más evidentes de las políticas de la patrulla fronteriza se manifiesta en el desgaste de los mecanismos de circularidad migratoria y la tendencia de los migrantes a ampliar sus tiempos de estancia en el país vecino para evitar la experiencia de cruzar repetidamente la frontera, de tal forma que una vez cruzada la línea los migrantes tienden a prolongar su estancia en aquel país o a establecerse definitivamente.
